Oasis was founded in early 2018. The team is led by Prof. Dawn Song, a MacArthur Fellow and Professor from UC Berkeley.

What is the motivation to start Oasis and the story behind? Why did you name Oasis native token ROSE?

Oasis brings together years of work done by Prof. Dawn Song and her team in the fields of cryptography, distributed systems, and her vision for a responsible data economy. 

With the Oasis Network and its privacy-first features, we aim to power never-before-seen use cases of blockchain and the next generation of privacy-enabled DeFi.

ROSE token is the native token of the Oasis Network. ROSE will fuel all transactions, staking, and delegation on the Oasis Network.

The story behind ROSE is that we wanted the token to stand as a representation for the network and Roses fit right in. 

Historically they have often represented “secrecy”. Dating back to Ancient Greece, the Rose was seen as a symbol for secrets or privacy, used by Aphrodite as a gift in exchange for keeping the secrets of Gods.

In Ancient Rome this symbolism continued and the phrase “sub rosa” or “under the rose” was to mean “done in secret” or “under a pledge of secrecy”. 

This phrase and the symbol of Roses as secrecy extended throughout history with the British Tudors era where state secrets were decided in a room with a large rose hanging from the ceiling.

This fits well with our vision for the Oasis Network, which seeks to power the next generation of blockchain use cases through its unique capacity to support confidential computing and private data on the ledger.

What are the advantages over other projects / networks?

Scalability:

1. The Oasis Network’s impressive scalability is achieved through a cutting-edge set of features that provide faster transaction speeds and higher throughput than other networks. 

2. The top-tier performance of the network is largely due to its separation of compute and consensus operations into the Consensus Layer and ParaTime Layer.

This separation allows multiple ParaTimes to process transactions in parallel, meaning complex workloads processed on one ParaTime won’t slow down faster, simpler transactions on another.

Privacy-first:

1. The Oasis Network designed the first ever confidential ParaTime with support for confidential smart contracts. In a confidential ParaTime, nodes are required to use a type of secure computing technology called a TEE (Trusted Execution Environment.) 

2. TEEs act as a black box for smart contract execution in a confidential ParaTime. Encrypted data goes into the black box along with the smart contract, data is decrypted, processed by the smart contract, and then encrypted before it is sent out of the TEE. This process ensures that data remains confidential, and is never leaked to the node operator or application developer

3. The Oasis Eth/WASI Runtime is an open source example of a confidential ParaTime that uses Intel SGX. Other secure compute technology, such as ZKP, HE, or other secure enclaves, can also be used. In the future we hope to support additional computation techniques such as secure multi-party compute, federated learning and more.

Why is the network divided into consensus layer and ParaTime layer, and what role does each layer play?

The Oasis Network is a Layer 1, proof-of-stake, decentralized network. It has two main components, the Consensus Layer and the ParaTime Layer.

1. The Consensus Layer is a scalable, high-throughput, secure, proof-of-stake consensus run by a decentralized set of validator nodes.

2. The ParaTime Layer hosts many parallel runtimes (ParaTimes), each representing a replicated compute environment with shared state.

The high-performance of the network is largely due to its separation of compute and consensus operations into the ParaTime Layer and Consensus Layer. 

This separation allows multiple ParaTimes to process transactions in parallel, meaning complex workloads processed on one ParaTime won’t slow down faster, simpler transactions on another.

What does data tokenization mean? How does Oasis achieve that?

Let me provide a little bit context first before we dive into data tokenization. 
The decentralized nature of the Internet, in particular its end-to-end (e2e) principle, promised originally to put end users in charge of their online activities.

However, as it turns out, first the client-server arrangement of Web 1.0, and then the multisided platforms ecosystems of Web 2.0, ended up reducing the end users’ ability to control their digital identities.

Over time, any potential ability for ordinary people to control access to data, engage in mutual value exchange with peers and partners, and otherwise assert their digital rights, have been siphoned off, for third parties to enjoy.

The arrival of what we introduce here as Blockchain 3.0 presents a pivotal evolutionary step in both the WWW, and blockchain technology itself.

With Blockchain 3.0, the public and easily-shareable nature of tokenized data, combined with secure computing environments, produces a new form of cryptodata.

In turn, Blockchain 3.0 promises to help fuel a responsible data society, and address many of the issues of control, access, and value exchange that plague data on the web today.

Tokenized Data is the combination of encrypted data capsules whose access can be controlled and enforced by a blockchain like the Oasis Network. 

Once data is encapsulated in supportive computational systems as cryptodata, end users can allow selective and consent-based computation on their information. With secure computing environments, like the ones found in the Oasis Network. 

This powerful duo of data capsule + policies means data can be shared and exchanged freely and openly without concern that it could be misused or mishandled.

Yes we’re working with a number of existing great DeFi players including

1. Oracles : We recently announced that we’re working with Chainlink to bring their oracles to the Oasis Network. The Oasis Network’s privacy-preserving components will be able to leverage Chainlink to collect and aggregate data from multiple sources and use it as a validated data input for privacy-preserving computation on the Oasis Network.

2. Balancer : bring private AMM to Oasis Network

3. Bankex, a digital asset platform

4. Totle, a liquidity-focused service that aggregates decentralized exchanges and synthetic asset providers to help source liquidity at the best price.

The ROSE garden program was closed as of 11/18/2020, and we got over 6000 participants.
The ROSE Garden is Oasis’ novel mechanism to reward the ROSE tokens to the community in exchange for making the network safer. The ROSE Garden has two components:

ROSE Farm, in which participants receive ROSE in exchange for temporarily adding USDC or USDT to the ROSE Farm pool.

1. Participant adds up to $2,000 in USDC or USDT to the ROSE Farm pool via CoinList during the Participation Window; 100% of the USDC or USDT is returned after one month

2. Participant’s allocation is proportional to the total contribution of the ROSE Farm pool

3. 10M ROSE tokens are disbursed one month after the end of the Participation Window

All participants can join ROSE Farm, however participants need to join ROSE Farm to access ROSE Cultivate.

ROSE Cultivate, in which participants receive more ROSE in exchange for staking the farmed ROSE.

1. Participants who farmed ROSE in ROSE Farm can also participate in ROSE Cultivate by simply opting in during the Participation Window

2. Participant’s allocation is proportional to her total contribution of the ROSE Cultivate pool

3. 20M ROSE tokens are disbursed at the end of a five-month Staking Window, which starts when ROSE Farm ends

4. Additionally, being Oasis stakers, participants also receive Oasis staking rewards

3. 2천만개의 ROSE 토큰은 ROSE Farm이 종료될 때 시작되는 5개월의 Staking Window가 끝날 때 지급됩니다.

4. 또한 Oasis 스테이킹 참가자는 Oasis 스테이킹 보상도 받을 수 있습니다.
